Free Press Summer Fest 2012
So we have some big news and some even bigger news…
We are really excited to announce that Caddywhompus will be performing at this year’s Free Press Summerfest in Houston, TX June 2-3. If you haven’t checked out this line-up yet prepare to piss your pants cause it’s awesome. Willie Nelson, Snoop Dog, Maps and Atlases, Fat Tony, Big Freedia, Quintron and Miss Pussycat, The Tontons, Major Lazer, and The Descendants are a few of the big names that I can think of right now, but head over to the FPSF website to peep the whole list. This is seriously the greatest music festival I’ve ever been too. If you live near Houston it’s really something special so no matter what the weather (probably 200 degrees) if you go you will have the time of your life.
Now for da BIG news. . . drumroll. . . ambient swell. . . drumroll . . .The Riff Tiffs will be reuniting at Free Press Summerfest! It’s been years since we have played together and we are also going to be finishing an album we recorded like 4 years ago which was never released. If you are not familiar with The Riff Tiffs, it was a band Chris and I were in in high-school which also had Chris’s brother Curran Rehm on guitar and recent New Orleans transplant Althea Topek on bass. We have a bandcamp page still if you’d like to hear some old tunes, but we should be finishing up mixing the new(er) material soon and give it a proper release at last.
So if your interested in buying a pass, follow this link and you’ll be directed to a page where you can buy a ticket for 20% off. This is a private link and only the first 40 people will get discounts, so get em while they last.

Hope to see you there!

Tapes are in! Upcoming Shows!
COMMUNITY RECORDS IS THE BOMB!
We just finished packing all the pre-orders for the tape release, each one with a unique photograph from our summer tour and a stick of a incense. We probably already mentioned this elsewhere but there are 4 new songs on side B of The Weight cassette. We are still working on new material so we should have a proper release coming soon. Order tapes here.
Now we would like to share with you all highlights from “The Mistle-To”, our weirdest tour yet! We met up with Sun Hotel right after Christmas in Beaumont, TX to play with Hello Chief! (an extremely talented band from Beaumont that plays poppy/mathy/chanty jams) The next night we played with LIMB in Houston, TX. LIMB, a.k.a. James Templeton, plays a drumset accompanied by his computer’s sample-glitch-style tracks that are triggered by hand-wired sensors within his kit. Then we played in Austin, TX on New Years Eve. Twenty bottles of Andre later someone threw a couch into the tiny fire which made it get bigger and singe the tree next to the house. I’d like to take this time to thank the Austin fire-fighters who saved our asses and didn’t call the cops. Rock and Roll!
Denton, TX w/ YALL
After 3 last-minute but fun-as-shit shows in a row in Denton,TX our van broke down in Fate, TX, where we preceded to post up in a motel for 3 days while we waited for our van a.k.a “Bobandi” to get fixed up. We were really bummed we had to cancel our Tenessee and Arkansas shows, so we are working on getting back their ASAP to make up for the cancelled shows. We made it to Mobile and Enterprise which turned out to be hella cool.
Now we are back in New Orleans. We played a couple house parties last week which destroyed. Check out these pics by Barryfest. Also, Chris is starting another solo ambient project in which he will make 8 hours of music “for a good night’s rest“. Sleeping is a very complex phenomenon, so chris has been researching the subject in order to make the best possible music to sleep too.
Aw yea.

new songs/cassette tapes/thanksgiving shows
Hello!
Last weekend marked the release of the first ever Chinquapin Records Compilation. The compilation (which has 2 new caddywhompus demos on it) is definitely one of the coolest things we have ever been a part of. It was really fun to make and we hope you like it too!
You can stream and download Chinquapin Records Compilation #1 here.
Community Records is helping us re-release all of our albums on cassette! You can get Eps, Remainder, and The Weight + Maze Demos (maze demos are 4 new demos, 2 of which are on the chinquapin comp.) for $10, or $4 for each individually.
Pre-order cassettes from Community Records here.
We’ll be in Houston on Thanksgiving day to play at Fitzgerald’s with the Sideshow Tramps. They are ridiculously talented musicians that play old-timey bluegrassy stuff you can mosh to.
Also, we are playing with Generationals and Jean-eric on Nov. 23 at One Eyed Jack’s. Please bring your weird cousin to either show.

Chickie Wah-Wah w/ David Vandervelde
Hello!
This Friday, October 14, we will be playing a show with David Vandervelde. He is a super-talented song-writer/multi-instrumentalist who used to play lot with the late Jay Bennett of Wilco. His first album, The Moonstation House Band, is a favorite of ours and is always on heavy rotation in the caddy-mobile.
So here’s the info.
And here is a video:

Also, our friend Ben Jones from Giant Cloud will be playing guitar with David Vandervelde. Cool! Hope to see you there!

Goldrush Music Festival
We are currently gearing up (literally trying to fix our equipment) to go play at the Goldrush Music Festival in Denver on September 17. Turns out it was cheaper to fly to Denver rather than drive all the way up there and back in a weekend so safe to say we won’t be cracked out zombies by the time we arrive.Tome To The Weather Machine just posted an interview accompanied by some very kind words about us. Chris made a mix of music he has been jamming recently and you can listen to that at the bottom of the interview. Click here to read that. Here’s the line-up:

New Website/More Free Downloads!
Hello!
So we finally made a new website. You can now see what you are clicking on and we’ve updated the discography so you can stream/download all of our releases for free! To commemorate this extraordinary achievement, we are releasing some demos recorded in Brooklyn, NY last summer with the help of Ben Dude & Fiasco (really cool band). Those songs would later become the bulk of The Weight EP. You can download and stream those tracks here.
As for us, we are busy writing some new songs and getting situated back in the Big Easy. We’re trying not book to many shows in order to focus on writing, but we will playing a few Houston and New Orleans shows over the next few months. We are really pumped to be flying to Denver to play the Goldrush Music Festival. They put out a really awesome compilation of some of the bands playing which includes an unreleased recording by Chris. You can download/stream that here.
We’ll be updating the site more frequently (now that it is possible), so check back with us when you can for more news. We are going to try and release a live video of some of our new songs soon, once we write them…
